What a Lovely Pear - #vanillasundayze edition

Today we turn our attention to the humble Pear.


There are so many different varieties of Pears in today's market, but they seem to be overshadowed by their cousins the Apples who are typically labelled as the Hero.


In fact around the world there are over 3000 different kinds. Can you believe it? In Australia there are 3 Main Varieties that include:


🌟Packham's Triumph that is Bright green when it is ready, it makes up about 60% of all Australian Pear production. They are available most the year. The are sweet, rich and juicy and can also be used in baking.


🌟William Bartlett. They turn almost yellow when they are at their ripest. They are usually available between Feb - May are sweet & juicy and can be used in cooking when they are slightly firmer


🌟Beurre' Bosc will turn a soft brown colour when they are ripe, these are also generally found all year round. Typically firmer make a great candidate for cooking.


But what else do we really know about this humble lunchbox companion?


The Pear has been proven to have been around as far back as Prehistoric times. Documented to have first been cultivated in China 2000BC.


Since then it has been given to the world all over Europe, Africa & America. This amazing fruit has so many health benefits.


🌟They are highly nutritious containing a large portion of Vitamin K, C, A , Potassium, Folate & Niacin which are all great for cellular function & energy production.


🌟They can promote great gut health by providing 22% of your daily fiber intake, which can help alleviate constipation.


🌟Green skinned Pears contain Lutein & Zeaxanthin which are 2 compounds that aid in keeping your vision sharp as you age.


🌟Have anti-inflammatory properties as they are rich in flavonoid properties, which have also been linked to reduce the effects of diabetes and heart disease.


🌟They also contain various compounds such as anthocyanin and cinnamic acid, which has been proven to fight cancer.
